Using data from the 2009 California Health Interview Survey, the authors studied smoking status of individuals with a first-degree family history of cancer.
The authors learned that nearly 1.3 million adult current smokers had a first-degree family history of cancer. Smokers with a family history of cancer are at higher risk for poor health outcomes. The findings show that smoking cessation interventions are needed for this high-risk group.Publication Authors:
