About Us: Center Expertise: Research and Education

The Center is a recognized leader in health policy research, conducted collaboratively across many disciplines. The research staff includes Center-based senior researchers, UCLA faculty members, graduate students and other researchers and analysts.

Center faculty associates and researchers are experts in conducting studies on an array of important health issues, including access to health care, health care economics, health status and chronic conditions, health insurance coverage, disparities in health services, and methodological studies related to data collection for public health and health policy. Research teams examine these issues on national, state, and local levels.

Center researchers are experienced in studies that analyze existing population-based survey data; studies requiring complex survey designs, particularly those collecting data from ethnic-specific communities and non-English-speaking populations; studies analyzing administrative data; studies requiring program eligibility and health benefits modeling; cost-benefit analyses; qualitative research using focus groups; and program and policy evaluation research. In analyzing data, the Center's researchers are adept at translating findings and applying them to different audiences and have also developed small area estimation techniques to provide statistical estimates for local geographic areas most relevant to communities and policy makers.

Located adjacent to the UCLA campus, the Center serves as a training site for students and young research professionals, providing guidance and experience to graduate students and post-doctoral researchers. Research assistant positions are regularly available, and some students conduct their dissertation research using Center-maintained databases. The Center welcomes inquiries about in-residence positions from post-doctoral scholars who are applying for individual-fellowships and would like to work with Center faculty or researchers, Center databases, or on research projects that contribute to the Center mission.
