The Center's training and technical assistance staff works with community, service, and advocacy organizations to build their capacity to find and use research data in their programmatic and policy development work. Uses of research data include getting a specific issue on the agenda, raising public awareness and advocating for public policies that benefit the community.
Training. Training is provided through workshops, consultation, and coaching on topics that include understanding research data, collecting data, and data presentation techniques. Such training can help policy professionals apply health research data to community assessments, policy development, and media advocacy.
Technical Assistance. Center staff also offer technical assistance in their areas of expertise to community organizations, policy makers, the media, and others. Technical assistance has included providing advice on effective strategies for presenting data, offering suggestions about how to interpret Center research in particular communities, and guidance on how to culturally adapt research. In addition, the Center offers limited customized data estimates from surveys maintained by the Center, including the California Health Interview Survey (CHIS), the Current Population Survey (CPS), the National Health Interview Survey (NHIS), and the Medicare Current Beneficiary Survey (MCBS).
