 It’s Never Too Late to Stop Smoking

 

If you or a loved one have thought about quitting smoking, we’re here to help. We realize that this is something that’s difficult to do, and we believe the more support you have, the more likely you’ll succeed in your journey towards tobacco and smokefree living.

The California Department of Public Health reports that nearly three in four cigarette smokers  want to stop smoking completely. Perhaps you want to quit smoking because your loved ones are concerned about your health. Maybe you don’t want to expose your family to the deadly mix of more than 7,000 chemicals of which hundreds are harmful, and about 70 are known to cause cancer.  Perhaps smoking claimed the life of a close friend or relative; or simply, you want to live a longer and healthier life.

No matter the reason, we applaud you for taking this important life-changing step. It’s not going to be easy, but we want to help you kick the nicotine habit. The more support you have, or are able to give to someone who wants to quit smoking, the higher the chances of success.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), smoking greatly increases a person’s risk of death and serious health problems, including heart and lung disease. Therefore, you will see improvements to your health no matter at what age you decide to stop smoking. That’s why your plan to quit smoking may be one of the most important decisions you’ll make, at any age.

The good news is that thousands of people who decide to quit smoking do so successfully by taking advantage of available resources and getting the support they need. They all strive to reach a common goal, which is to improve their health and that of their family.


Ways to Quit Smoking
Quitting smoking is made easier if you know help is available. If you or a loved one have decided to stop smoking, you can choose one of several treatments that have helped former smokers to kick the habit. They include:

• Talking to your doctor and asking for advice about the best steps to take to stop smoking.
• Considering using nicotine patches, gum, nasal spray or other products available to help you stop the urge to smoke.
• Looking into the availability of individual, group or telephone counseling.
• Taking part in stop-smoking counseling sessions.
• Participating in stop-smoking programs that deliver treatments using an app on your cell phone.


Significant Benefits Associated With Quitting Smoking
It’s important to know that once you stop smoking, it won’t take long before you notice positive changes to your health. According to the CDC, if you quit smoking, you’re likely to:
• Lower your risk of getting lung cancer and other types of cancer.
• Reduce your risk of heart disease and stroke.
• Reduce coughing, wheezing and shortness of breath. While these symptoms may not disappear, you will have fewer health complications, compared to if you continue to smoke.
• If you’re a woman, you’ll reduce your risk of infertility.
• If you’re pregnant, quitting smoking will reduce your risk of having a low birth-weight baby.
