Comparing Cardiometabolic Risk Factors and Dementia Risk Scores for Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Dementias Across Asian Groups in California

PROJECT DATE: to
Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias is rapidly becoming a public health crisis in the US, affecting around 7 million older Americans (65+). It is therefore critical to understand and address risks for dementia in the US population, to formulate effective public health interventions to curtail the disease. The Asian race in the US represent a large heterogenous population, from over 20 countries and research has been limited on any differences in the risk for dementia faced by different subgroups. This study attempts to examine the risk for dementia in 8 different Asian sub-groups through the application of the Cardiovascular Risk Factors, Ageing and Dementia (CAIDE) risk score using disaggregated race data from the California Health Interview Survey (CHIS).
