Nearly 300 people attended a Feb. 8 symposium on health care reform held in honor of both the Center's founding director, E. Richard Brown, as well as the work of the UCLA Center for Health Policy Research.

The event brought together California’s leading health experts, including Peter Long, CEO, Blue Shield Foundation of California; Diana Bonta, president & CEO of The California Wellness Foundation; Kim Belshé, former secretary, California Health and Human Services Agency; Robert Kaplan, director, NIH Office of Behavioral and Social Sciences Research (OBSSR) and NIH Associate Director for Behavioral and Social Sciences Research; Richard Kronick, Deputy Assistant Secretary, Health Policy, Office of the Assistant Secretary for Planning and Evaluation, U.S. Department of Health and Human Service; Sheila Kuehl, former chair of the California Senate Health Committee; Andrew Bindman, professor of Medicine, Health Policy, Epidemiology & Biostatistics, UC San Francisco, Anthony Wright, executive director, Health Access, Linda Rosenstock, dean, UCLA Fielding School of Public Health, and many other experts to discuss the future of health care reform and report on early successes and challenges in implementation.   

Attendees also gave a warm welcome to new Center Director Gerald F.
