Adolescent Substance Use and Mental Health Outcomes

This project will examine the extent to which California adolescents with serious or moderate psychological distress are using substances and which, if any, substances are more likely to be used in the past year. It will also examine the extent to which adolescents with serious or moderate psychological distress who are using substances are more likely to have suicidal ideation in the past year. Lastly, it will examine the extent to which the associations between serious or moderate psychological distress, substance use, and suicide ideation are moderated by sociodemographic characteristics and risk and protective factors.
