Exploring Health Disparities in San Diego County Residents by Age: A Report to Identify Opportunities to Achieve Health Equity in San Diego County

Summary

Published Date: September 02, 2025

The report identifies health disparities by age among San Diego County residents. It includes demographic data from the U.S. Census’s American Community Survey and the 2018–2022 California Health Interview Survey (CHIS) and health outcomes data from a variety of other sources for the following age groups: 0–17 years; 18–24 years; 25–44 years; 45–64 years; 65+ years.

Findings: In 2022, residents in San Diego County were primarily 25–44 years, followed by 0–17 years, 45–64 years, 65+ years, and 18–24 years. From 2018–2022, the populations aged 45–64 years and 65 years and older were less racially diverse, with over half of residents in both age groups identifying as non-Hispanic white. A greater proportion of residents aged 18–24 years were uninsured, did not have a usual source of care, lived below 200% FPL, and were unemployed and looking for work compared to other age groups.
