This project examines how legal status moderates the relationship between adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and adult health outcomes across racial and ethnic groups in California. Using restricted data from the 2021 and 2022 California Health Interview Survey, the study will estimate how ACEs and legal status interact to influence self-rated health and psychological distress. It also explores whether positive childhood experiences (PCEs), such as strong adult relationships and belongingness, buffer against the harmful effects of ACEs. Findings will inform interventions and policies aimed at reducing health disparities among adults with precarious legal status and histories of early life adversity.
