PUBLISHED ON:
Overview
Access brand new data from the nation's largest population-based state health survey.
Following the release of the full 2024 California Health Interview Survey (CHIS) data in October 2025, the UCLA Center for Health Policy Research (CHPR) hosted a data user training to demonstrate how to use our free online health query tools.
In this training, you will learn how to access new data on a wide range of health topics using AskCHIS™. CHIS Data Dissemination Manager Jacob Rosalez will walk through how to:
- Set up an account.
- Search for health statistics by county, region, and the state.
- Compare topics and look across various sociodemographic factors.
- Identify patterns and trends.
- View and export data in tables, charts, and graphs.
- …and more!
Rosalez also shares how to use AskCHIS™ Neighborhood Edition (NE), which provides select health estimates at more granular levels of geography: census tract, ZIP code, city, county, and legislative district levels. Learn how to produce tables, thematic maps, and bar charts for easy visualization.
Whether you're a legislator in need of reliable data to inform policy, a community organization advocating for the needs of their community, a researcher studying disparities in access to care, a journalist working on a story about some of the financial difficulties facing Californians, or a concerned citizen, CHIS will provide the training that puts evidence at your fingertips.
