Our Work

California Health Interview Survey (CHIS)

AAPI Data Project

AAPI Data selected the UCLA Center for Health Policy Research and California Health Interview Survey as a partner to understand the health, mental health, and social service needs of AANHPIs in California.
Chronic Disease Program

Air Pollution and Health Care Utilization

Through a grant from the Health Effects Institute, UCLA CHPR is studying whether air pollution improvements resulted in reductions in emergency department visits and hospitalizations among Medicaid fee-for-service enrollees with chronic conditions.
Health Equity Program

American Indian and Alaska Native (AIAN) Research

AIAN have the highest rates of asthma, diabetes, and heart disease and experience persistent barriers to health care. The American Indian Research Program (AIRP) was among the first health policy research programs to address these issues.
California Health Interview Survey (CHIS)

AskCHIS™

AskCHIS™ is an online health query tool that allows you to quickly search for health statistics on your county, region, and state. AskCHIS draws upon responses from the California Health Interview Survey.
California Health Interview Survey (CHIS)

AskCHIS™ NE

AskCHIS Neighborhood Edition (NE) is an online data dissemination and visualization platform that allows users to search for top health topics at granular levels of geography (ZIP code, city, county, legislative district, Census tract).
Chronic Disease Program

Asthma

Nearly 6 million Californians have asthma. Researchers conduct studies on asthma rates, and contributing factors including first and secondhand tobacco smoke, air pollution, and more.

BFAIRR Project

The Black-Focused Assessment of Indicators for Risk Reduction (BFAIRR) project aims to conduct a statewide analysis focusing on Black Californians, which assesses the multilevel factors associated with vaccination acceptance, uptake, and mask use.
Chronic Disease Program

Breast Cancer

Recent UCLA CHPR research has focused on identifying barriers to metastatic breast cancer care in California and propose possible solutions for system or policy changes that can improve care for patients.

California Health Benefits Review Program (CHBRP)

The California Health Benefits Review Program (CHBRP) responds to requests from the state legislature to provide independent analysis of the medical, financial, and public health impacts of proposed health insurance benefit mandates and repeals.

California Health Interview Survey (CHIS)

The California Health Interview Survey (CHIS) is the nation's largest state health survey and a critical source of data on Californians as well as on the state's various racial and ethnic groups.
HEER Program

California Simulation of Insurance Markets (CalSIM)

The California Simulation of Insurance Markets (CalSIM), developed in partnership with the UC Berkeley Labor Center, is a micro-simulation model that projects the impacts of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) on insurance coverage in California.

Chronic Disease Program

The Chronic Disease Program uses data from CHIS to conduct wide-ranging research on chronic conditions — including asthma, cancer, diabetes, obesity, mental illness, and heart disease — which are leading causes of death and disability in the U.S.
