Karen Bass, representative for the 33rd Congressional district and former California Assembly Speaker, will speak at UCLA on Friday, April 29, about the impact of the proposed sweeping cuts to the nation's health care system, including proposals to fundamentally alter the structure of two popular programs affecting millions of Americans: Medicare and Medicaid.  Bass, who has championed expanded children's health coverage, improvements in education and infrastructure, support of foster children, and other issues, will also discuss how cuts to federal programs and services may impact the research budgets of federal agencies and universities like UCLA.
