Examining the Effects of Adverse and Positive Childhood Experiences on Adult Mental Health in California

PROJECT DATE: to

Using 2021 and 2022 California Health Interview Survey data, this research study will provide descriptive statistics of the prevalence of ACEs and PCEs in California’s adult population in 2021 and 2022. This study will also describe the association with ACEs and psychological distress among adults as well as between ACEs and unmet mental health needs and examine these relationships using a life course perspective (i.e., across age groups). Finally, this study will use a logistic regression model to examine how the interaction between ACEs and PCEs influences mental health outcomes (i.e., psychological distress and unmet mental health needs as binary variables).
