Preliminary CalSIM v 2.0 Regional Remaining Uninsured Projections

August 1, 2016

Research Report

Authors: Miranda Dietz, Dave Graham-Squire, Tara Becker, PhD, Xiao Chen, PhD, Laurel Lucia, MPP, Ken Jacobs

About 3 million Californians will remain uninsured in 2017, according to preliminary estimates from this report. The preliminary results were found using the California Simulation of Insurance Markets (CalSIM) model version 2.0.

This new data book breaks out estimates of the remaining uninsured by eligibility category and by Covered California region. The majority of those projected to remain uninsured in California are not eligible for Medi-Cal or Covered California due to their immigration status. Just under 25 percent are eligible for either Medi-Cal or subsidized coverage through Covered California. The remaining 18 percent are eligible for Covered California but would not receive subsidies.
