Jean R. Slutsky, Chief Engagement and Dissemination Officer at the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) will present the 2014 Samuel Tibbitts Distinguished Lecture, “The Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute and its National Priorities” on May 29.

PCORI is an independent, nonprofit agency that conducts research to provide information about the best available evidence to help patients and their health care providers make more informed decisions. PCORI’s research is intended to give patients a better understanding of the prevention, treatment and care options available, and the science that supports those options.

Prior to joining PCORI, Slutsky directed the Center for Outcomes and Evidence at the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, a U.S. Department of Health and Human Services agency, where she conceived and implemented the Effective Health Care program.

She received her undergraduate degree from University of Iowa, trained as a Physician Assistant at the University of Southern California, and received a MSPH in health policy from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

The Tibbitts Lecture is presented by the Department of Health Policy and Management within the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health and by the UCLA Center for Health Policy and Research and is funded from the proceeds of Center Director Gerald Kominski’s seminal health text book, “Changing the U.S Healthcare System,” currently in its fourth edition.
