A new study that evaluates the “readiness” of Los Angeles County community health centers (CHCs) to serve new populations insured under health care reform will be published on May 21 by the UCLA Center for Health Policy Research with support from the California Community Foundation and the Weingart Foundation.

The policy brief specifically looks at the progress made to date on adopting a “medical home” model of care, increasing managed care participation, updating information technology, and engaging in quality initiatives in order to prepare for an anticipated influx of newly insured while still effectively serving CHC’s traditional clientele, the uninsured.   The policy brief will be available on the Center’s website on May 21.  In addition, the publication will be discussed at a gathering of CHCs, funders and other interested parties at the California Community Foundation, 281 S. Figueroa Street, Los Angeles, Calif. 90012 [Map] from 10 a.m. – noon.
