UCLA CHPR staff and faculty associates are featured in more than 35 scientific presentations, panel discussions, and poster sessions on topics including: improving racial/ethnic data disaggregation in public health data, the impact of lack of labor and employment protections for immigrants on health, the unmet needs of older adults and adults with disabilities, assessing vulnerable populations' access to health services, and more.

Addressing Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander Data Needs for Community Health Panel
The Asian & Pacific Islander Caucus for Public Health will host a panel featuring UCLA CHPR's Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander (NHPI) Data Policy Lab. In this panel, researchers will highlight the work of the NHPI Data Policy Lab in creating community-engaged solutions to address the data needs of NHPI-serving organizations in order to address health equity. Presenters include 'Alisi Tulua, Richard Calvin Chang, Corina Penaia, Karla Thomas, and Brittany Morey, and will be moderated by Ninez A. Ponce.

The APHA Aging and Public Health Section will also present the inaugural Steven P. Wallace Emerging Advocate Award to UCLA CHPR graduate student researcher Lei Chen. The award embraces and celebrates the spirit of leadership that Dr. Steven P. Wallace exemplified through his life’s work as a strong advocate for social equity and inclusivity in aging. Dr. Wallace was an Associate Center Director and Director of the Health Disparities Program at UCLA CHPR and professor at the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health. He passed away in 2021.
The largest gathering of public health professionals, the APHA Annual Meeting and Expo brings more than 13,000 members of the public health community together to experience robust scientific programming, poster sessions, meetings, networking, and more. The 2022 meeting theme is “150 Years of Creating the Healthiest Nation: Leading the Path Toward Equity” and celebrates the 150th anniversary of APHA, recognizing the tremendous advancements in science and policy APHA and its members have facilitated to improve the health of all U.S. residents, but also focusing on the need to continue to confront and acknowledge racism and bias in the U.S.
UCLA CHPR will also have a booth (#912), where attendees can learn more about the center and our projects, including the California Health Interview Survey, the largest state health survey in the nation.
