On March 13, 2018, shortly after the Parkland shooting in Florida, and in recognition of the devastating local impact of violence on individuals, families and communities; the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors passed the first Office of Violence Prevention (OVP) board motion requesting the Department of Public Health (DPH) to propose the infrastructure and resources needed to create and support a robust and integrated Countywide Violence Prevention Initiative.
