Summary
This fact sheet provides data on the differences in socio-economic status of California's estimated 6 million caregivers — individuals who are providing care to a family member or friend with a long-term illness or disability.
In particular, the authors pay particular attention paid to the plight of those aiding a family member or friend receiving Medi-Cal. The fact sheet finds that despite being compensated, paid caregivers — and paid Medi-Cal caregivers in particular — fared much worse on a number of economic security indicators.
This fact sheet was supported with funding from the Service Employees International Union (SEIU).
