Summary
The Silicon Valley Index has been telling the Silicon Valley story since 1995. Released early every year, the Index is a comprehensive report based on indicators that measure the strength of our economy and the health of our community—highlighting challenges and providing an analytical foundation for leadership and decision-making.
Findings:
- $69 billion in venture capital was tempered by a 0.1% decline in employment, signaling an innovation engine running strong but shifting out of high gear.
- Per capita income soared to $157,000, but inflation eroded those gains
- The median home price rose to $1.92 million, out of reach for all but 26% of first-time buyers.
The Index uses data from various sources, including the California Health Interview Survey (CHIS), to look at the region's people, employment, innovation ecosystem, commercial space, income and wealth, housing, equity and access, and sustainability.
