Summary
The San Francisco Food Security Task Force (FSTF) was created by the Board of Supervisors with the purpose of making recommendations on policies, programs, and funding to improve food security.
Recommendations: The Food Security Task Force calls on San Francisco’s government to:
- Invest adequate City resources to support equitable and coordinated solutions to food security.
- Support funding structures and programs that promote holistic approach to food and nutrition security.
- Focus on health equity in funding opportunities.
- Invest in infrastructure to increase efficiency, coordination, and utilization of publicly funded food services.
The FSTF made recommendations to improve the process and content for the 2025 report, including a more in-depth analysis of program coverage and provide summary data to the FSTF; evaluate underutilization of programs and develop outreach programs; include community voices in program evaluations; and determine true costs for food-related services and make equitable funding decisions.
