Health care coverage varies widely among California’s 80 Assembly and 40 Senate districts. The uninsured rates among nonelderly persons, ages 0-64, range from 10% to 44% in Assembly districts (see Table 1), and 12% to 43% in Senate districts (see Table 2). Three-fourths of California legislative districts — 60 of 80 Assembly districts and 29 of 40 Senate districts — have higher uninsured rates than the national average of 17%.
