This 2025 community health assessment was presented to Central Region Leadership. The region encompasses three areas: Central San Diego, Mid-City, and Southeastern San Diego. Data on demographics, education, economics, food insecurity, housing, homelessness, health status, chronic diseases, Alzheimer's Disease, and more were included

Findings: The Central Region saw:

  • An increase in the percentage of adults 25 and older with bachelor's and graduate degrees from 2018 to 2023.
  • An 55% increase in median home values from 2018 to 2023.
  • A decrease in 5-year average unemployment rate from 2018 to 2023.
  • A lower life expectancy than San Diego County overall in 2023.
  • Cancer as the leading cause of death in 2023.
  • 1 in 3 residents living below 200% FPL in 2023.

Subregion takeaways:

  • Central San Diego had disproportionate rates of behavioral health conditions in 2023 compared to other subregions.
  • Mid-City had the highest age-adjusted death rate due to Alzheimer’s Disease.
  • Southeastern San Diego faced disproportionate rates of chronic disease in 2023 compared to other subregions and had the largest number of students. experiencing homelessness in San Diego County in the 2023–2024 school year.
