Summary

Published Date: June 07, 2013

The purpose of the study is to compare the effects of factors on self-rated health (SRH) among older non-Hispanic Whites, Hispanics, and Asian Californians and to provide estimated influence size of each factor on SRH. The authors used data from the 2005 California Health Interview Survey. Hispanics and Asians reported poorer health than non-Hispanic Whites. Socioeconomic status, acculturation, and health access significantly accounted for an association between ethnicity and SRH. This study discusses and concludes with some recommendations on the opportunities presented by the Affordable Care Act and Healthy People 2020.
