Summary
This journal article uses data from the 2009 California Health Interview Survey (CHIS) to examine the rates of medication preparedness among a population with high rates of chronic conditions: Veterans. The authors examine both veteran men and women and their civilian counterparts and find a relatively high level of emergency medication preparedness among veterans, perhaps "because of their training to work in combat zones and other emergency situations, which perhaps engenders in them a culture of preparedness or self-reliance," according to the authors.
